My dad Jerome will celebrate his 80th birthday on December 23, 2022. For years, he has regularly donated blood and is just short of 20 gallons. Because of health issues, he is taking a break from donating, so in honor of his birthday, I'm running a marathon bloodraiser - that's right, no cash donations ... just blood! With your help, we'll help him hit his "career goal" of 20 gallons ... it's a Bloodraiser 4JK (for Jerome Kalkwarf)!
I'm looking for 40 people to donate blood in his honor - at approximately 2 pints per person, that's a total of 80 pints to celebrate his 80th birthday! When you're relaxed and pumping blood at your local blood organization, take a picture of your arm with the abbreviation and the needle. After the nurses are finished with you and you've had your post-donation snack, send me your picture. I'll aggregate all of the photos into a presentation for Jerome to have on his birthday December 23.
In appreciation of your blood donation, if you commit to participating by September 30, I'll add your name to the back of a custom-designed shirt in which I plan to run the October 9 Prairie Fire Marathon in Wichita. And since it's been five years since my last marathon, I'm going to need your inspiration to help me each and every mile (and hopefully not need your blood donation)! You don't need to donate by 9/30 ... just tell me that you will give blood by 12/19. I'll list your name below (or you can remain anonymous) and then I'll turn your name red once you officially donate!
You have never donated blood before? Get your questions answered at this Red Cross webpage, and you may be able to find a scheduled blood drive near you: https://www.redcross.org/give-blood.html
Note that the Red Cross processes about 40 percent of all blood donations in the United States. If they don't handle your area, send me your zip code and we'll find a donation center in your area!
